| Q. |
What is Variable Pulsed Light? |
| A. |
VPL™ was pioneered and developed by Energist as the most advanced form of Pulsed Light (IPL) treatment available. VPL™ systems use micro-pulses of particular colours of visible light to momentarily heat the hair, or a particular skin structure. These variable pulses ensure controlled heating whilst the surrounding skin remains cool to achieve excellent results on a range of hair and skin treatments. |

|
| Q. |
How does it work? |
| A. |
Depending on the treatment being carried out, light emitted by the VPL™ system is absorbed by a specific structure within the skin. For hair removal, the melanin which colours the hair absorbs this light and is heated to a temperature that permanently inhibits the hairs' growth. For skin treatments, particular structures within the skin absorb the light, repairing the damage caused by aging and sun damage, or improving symptoms of acne.

| Q. |
What conditions can be treated? |
| A. |
VPL™ is designed to provide both safe and effective hair removal and skin rejuvenation treatments.
Unwanted hair can be removed from all parts of the body including legs, chin, upper lip, underarm, bikini, arms, back and chest.
Many skin complaints caused by aging and the sun can be treated including redness, rosacea, age spots, freckles, pigment changes, poor skin texture, fine lines and active acne.
On your first visit, your personal practitioner will carry out a detailed consultation and assessment before recommending a treatment plan to suit your individual requirements, answering any questions you may have.

| Q. |
Is VPL™ safe and does it hurt? |
| A. |
VPL™ is safe, non-invasive, has minimal side effects, requiring no recovery time. VPL™ is gentler than laser and very fast, with underarms being treated in as little as 10 minutes. We believe it is the most advanced hair removal and skin treatment system available.
The treatment sensation will vary from client to client. Most say that it feels like the flicking of an elastic band on the skin. Any discomfort is momentary and there is no lasting sensation.

| Q. |
Can I have VPL™ hair treatments if I have blonde, red, grey or white hair? |
| A. |
In simple terms, the greater the contrast between your hair colour and your skin colour, the more easily we can achieve great results. If you have very blonde or red hair you will need to have a consultation with a practitioner to determine whether there is enough pigment in the hair for you to have a successful treatment. Grey or white hairs are not always suitable for this type of treatment, as they usually do not contain sufficient melanin to absorb light. |

|
| Q. |
Can I have VPL™ hair treatments if I have dark skin? |
| A. |
The VPL™ system has been shown to be very effective and safe even on darker skin types. You will need to have a consultation with your VPL™ practitioner to assess how effective this treatment will be for you, and how long it may take. |

|
| Q. |
Why do I need more than one treatment? |
| A. |
Hair goes through a 3-stage cycle and VPL™ treatment targets hair in the active growth phase. Since approximately 30-50% of hairs are in the growing phase at any given time, a course of treatments is necessary to achieve optimal results. |

|
| Q. |
How does VPL™ work on the skin pigmentation? |
| A. |
When treating unwanted areas of pigmentation, targeted areas momentarily absorb the light and heat up. This heating breaks down the pigmentation into tiny particles which then either rise to the skin's surface as scabs, which are exfoliated away naturally or are filtered away through the body's lymphatic system. |

|
| Q. |
How does VPL™ work on thread veins? |
| A. |
When treating thread veins (or other vascular conditions), the light is absorbed by the blood within the vessel, causing the thread vein to break up into particles that can be filtered away naturally through the lymphatic system in your body. |

| Q. |
How does VPL™ work on fine lines and wrinkles? |
| A. |
When treating fine lines and wrinkles, the light stimulates the growth of collagen which makes the skin feel plumper and more youthful.
